keyboard controller software update

Only if your mainboard maker provides new drivers, and since the devices haven't really changed in like 20 years it's not likely. If you mean updating "firmware", there's no such thing or at least no way to update it. The keyboard is usually controlled by a SuperI/O chip that also runs the PS/2 mouse port, serial and parallel ports. A main BIOS update may also affect the keyboard functionality. However there's very little chance anything you do is going to change the way it works. If you're having problems, it's not likely due to "controller software".

Yeah, there isn't much in the BIOS that has to do with the kbd except for allowing you to set the repeat delay and rate.
. You didn't say what the problem was or what you were trying to accomplish, so it's difficult to come up with advice.
. If you are trying to run a USB kbd without success, then look in the BIOS setup and enable "Legacy USB support". If it's a multimedia kbd and the extra buttons aren't working, that's a driver issue - not kbd controller or BIOS. A different driver is needed for each different kbd.
. Other that this, you'll just have to supply some more details.
