Keyboard and other issues with Droid INC

Looking for some help here, hoping to find some solutions.

I've been running into an issue with the keyboard on my Incredible for awhile now. Every now and then my keyboard will not actually register anything that I type. Both in portrait, and in landscape. In landscape mode the actual text entry block is grayed out. My boss has been running into the same issue. Sometimes using the ATK widget solves this issue (I do not have ATK running in the background) and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have to turn off the display and come back before it will work again. And even more rarely, I have to wait a good 5 minutes before I can actually enter any text. This occurs in any app that accepts text input.

Also within the last 2 weeks, my Incredible has become ridiculously slow at times. Text takes a good 2 seconds to register, although typing through it doesn't cause any lost letters. Killing the tasks in the background helps to a point, but still.

Total phone memory doesn't read the amount it should at times either, it reads about 756mb instead of the 6gb it should show. Removing the SD card and rebooting seems to solve this issue, and I'm starting to notice that the slowdowns coincide quite often with this issue. I believe this only started after the SD card filled up. I have ordered a new card and am awaiting delivery to see if that helps.

When rebooting my phone, the first time I receive a txt msg through chomp my background goes completely dark. Just the backround and apps, not the actual messages, menu buttons etc. Holding the power button until it asks whether or not I want to shut down the phone and then hitting home solves that issue.

And the oddest issue I've been running into is that 9 times out of 10 when I first get to work, I lose my data connection. No 3G, nada. I have to reboot the phone in order to get it back. This only occurs when I enter my work.

I believe most of these I've only run into since the Froyo OTA. I love the phone, and I've had mostly positive experiences with it until these issues cropped up. Even with these issues, the phone is still phenomenal. I would just like to get it back to 100% working order.

I know it's a bit of a laundry list, but I hate it when people expect me to solve their computer issues and they don't bother telling me what else has been a problem that could help truly diagnose the situation.

TIA

Froyo has given me a overall worse experience when related to vbulliten type forums

if i were you i'd back up your data, and try a full wipe back to stock, and let it do the OTA again. then install your apps one by one

also uninstall atk, it causes more harm than good on froyo

1. there is a known capacitance issue with the DI. this is probably what you are experiencing if the keyboard problem only seems to occur when you are not holding the phone in your hand (i.e. resting on a table, or some other surface). I have seen this issue with my phone but I haven't bothered with an RMA because I hold my phone in my hand 99% of the time so its pretty much a non issue for me.

2. Task killers are pointless in Froyo because the update prevents apps from killing tasks. So get yourself "froyo task killer" if you need the ability to kill tasks.

3. the slowdown and other issues are likely because of apps. As vshah said, it's a good idea at this point to backup your data and wipe to stock, then do the update and see how your phone runs before adding apps back in. if you still have an issue at that point, RMA it.

Good luck!

It's the Froyo 2.2 update. Prior to this I had zero issues with keyboard responsiveness and now it lags at times like yours is.

A factory reset did not solve this for me.

Thanks guys, I haven't done a reset yet, as I didn't really want to deal with another Verizon activation last night. The first time I had to activate this phone, I had to call customer support, and it took a good 2 hours to get everything to process just so I could actually use my phone.

Interestingly enough, while I was transfering all the photos and other elements I wanted on the new microSD card, the phone start to actually behave itself. It was a lot faster as well. I'm wondering if I was having an issue because the old card was quite full, and definitely older.

Upon installing the new card, no keyboard lockouts, faster response, and when the lag occurs (which is extremely infrequently now) it's less severe.

ATK does seem to kill some of the tasks when I request it to, however I no longer actively run it. That seemed to cause a ton of issues itself. I still find it useful for when there are 20 apps running at the same time, bogging me down. Do you have any examples of a froyo killer that would work just as well that doesn't need to be actively running? Having the widget on my main homescreen with ATK is quite useful.

Thanks again.

does resetting require an activation? afaik it shouldn't , its still the same phone, the network won't see anything different.

Ah, well that's somewhat embarrassing. I'd done some research and reactivation was included in the process, so I assumed it was correct.

Thanks for clearing that up.
