keyboard and mouse

I have an old ass white (turned yellowish) keyboard that while it works, kinda sucks. I only have one mouse so I have to keep disconnecting it to use with laptop etc.. so, time to get a real kb/mouse for my system.

I haven't been able to find any that I really like. I tend to stay with the simple. I was suggested the saitek eclipse kb and the logitech g5 mouse and i like what I see so far but maybe you guys have some suggestions that might help?

I've never spent more than $10 per mouse or KB so this is a first for me.

That would probably be the best price for performance combination considering both items have been heavily discounted.

I used the G5/Eclipse II combo for about a year and a half; it served me well. Took a little bit to get used to the action of the Eclipse, but it was fine. When I had my first-gen G5, it was kind of a pain to set the Eclipse II to red to match the mouse, but the second-gen G5 doesn't have this problem. I switched to a Logitech G11 for no particular reason at the beginning of the year, but I don't really see much of a difference.

I'm still typing with my Saitek Eclipse II. Been using it for a year, and I love and highly recommend it.

I'm still going with my Logitech MX518, one of the best mice out there. If you can find it, it's a great buy per cost.

I would suggest the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. The keys are shorter and have a shorter action (like laptop keys), but they have a much nicer tactile feel than the average keyboard. It took me a little while to get used to it at first, but now I absolutely love it. The backlighting and media keys are very nice as well.

If you find it on sale somewhere, you can get it really cheap as well. $25-40ish, IIRC.

Second the Logitech Illuminated keyboard. I used a Saitek Exclipse II for about a year, but it was starting to fall apart. The space bar got loose and the right side didn't work. It got noisy, rattley, and clicky. The Saitek Eclipse II is now in the charity bag, and the Logitech is in its place.

The illumination on the Logitech is much sharper and more even. It has three levels of luminance. The keyboard touch is smooth and even, and quiet. The programmable Fn keys are very useful as well.

just go all out lol, g9 and saitek cyborg
my cyborg hasnt fallen apart yet and it has metal wasd, space and arrow keys

I went from a G7 to an MX Revolution, and I have now gone back to a G5. I use the tilt-wheel a lot, and the tilt-action on the MX (same as G9, all other new tilt-wheel logitechs) was pretty poor. Also, the side buttons on the G5/G7 are much crisper.

It's all subjective, but I'm happy with the $35 I spent for a refurb'd G5 on ebay. The $100 MX Revolution is sitting in a drawer.
