Keyboard and mouse randomly lock up

This problem arose very suddenly and I can't trace it back to any specific changes I've made.

The problem is most noticable during gaming, and then most noticably in Counter-Strike. At random times, usually right when I need to shoot somebody, either my keyboard or my mouse will lock up, or both. It'll continue strafing after I've stopped pressing the key, or not let me mouse look, or have a few second delay when I try and jump, and so on. Once or twice it even froze completely for a few seconds and beeped like when you hold down too many keys for too long, which I wasn't doing. It's extremely irritating and I can't find the source of it.

The checklist (none worked).
- Different mouse.
- Different keyboard.
- Format/reinstall (it was time anyway).
- New CS config file.

This afternoon I cleaned out the troublesome keyboard with compressed air and got out a lot of stuff, which I thought would make a difference but didn't. The only thing I haven't tried that I can think of is setting my CPU back to 1200, but it's been overclocked since the day I built it and these problems just started a few weeks ago.

I'm starting to think it's my MB, but don't know why it would start so suddenly.

Link to rig. It's only a few months old.

I'd be surprised if this problem can be pinpointed, but let me know if any of you have any ideas.

Well, disabling dual-monitors in Windows just before I launch the game seems to have fixed it, but I still don't understand why it makes that happen. Oh well.

Is there any other way to fix it? Disabling it every time I want to play and then putting back my toolbars afterwards is kind of annoying.

I had a similar problem, and it started right after I started running the Nvidia 23.11 and 23.12 drivers. I have the same graphics card (Elsa 920) running on XP Pro. The problem stopped soon as I went back to the 21.83 drivers. I am running the 28.32's now and they also have been running fine. Any chance you have a logitech mouse?

Macaronee Penguin: Both video cards and the USB controller are on IRQ 5, and the mouse is a USB mouse - but that doesn't explain why it still didn't work with a regular PS/2 mouse. I can't change the IRQ for either video card manually so I'll try moving the PCI video card to a lower slot.

Buck: It's the MS Intellimouse Optical. I'll also try updating both card's drivers and see how that turns out.

Thanks.

So it doesn't work with ps/2 either? Are you using both your k/b and mouse as ps2 and it doesn't work?

Try updating the drivers like the other guy said and try updating your chipset drivers, specifically USB.

You can't change the IRQ settings because of ACPI which is automatically configurating your IRQ settings. Maybe there's something in the BIOS you can check out?

grab the latest via 4 in 1 drivers, switch your vid drivers as previously stated, and then check out the drivers section (specifically the ones for via chipset) at www.usbman.com they have numerous fixes, just download files that apply to your situation.

/edit are you multiplier or fsb overclocking?

Still no go. So far the only thing to fix it was disabling the second monitor before a game.

I got the VIA 4 in 1 drivers, the VIA USB Filter Driver 1.10, and the VIA 74 Patch since I have a KT266 board.

FSB.

Unless you guys have any other ideas, I've got no problems just disabling the second monitor before I play. 'Preciate the help.
