Hi,

I have got a new EVGA graphics card for Dell T110 server. I want to make this server for even general computing.

Here is my system specs.

Here are the system specs:

PowerEdge T110: PowerEdge T110 Chassis with upto 4 Cabled Hard Drives

Shipping: Shipping for PowerEdge T110

Processor: Intel® Xeon® X3430, 2.4 GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo

Memory: 2GB Memory (2x1GB), 1066MHz, Single Ranked UDIMM

Operating System: Windows 7

Hard Drive Configuration: Onboard SATA,
Hard Drives: 250GB 7.2k RPM Serial ATA 3Gbps 3.5-in Cabled Hard Drive !
Primary Hard Drive: HD Multi-Select
Network Adapter: On-Board Dual Gigabit Network Adapter
Embedded Management: Baseboard Management Controller
Internal Optical Drive: DVD Drive, Internal

Though dell recommends only server software but I could able to install Windows 7 home premium after going couple of articles on net.

Problem description:

1. With onboard video (8MB) system works perfectly fine.
2. After I insert the Video card (PCI2.0 E slot) i boot the system, without disabling the onboard video - Works perfectly fine.
3. Once I am inside, I do not find the new hardware found icon but then, I tried to install the graphics card driver but that fails saying no required hardware found.

Now, e
I disabled the Onboard video in bios and rebooted the system. It boots up and comes up with windows logon screen where I tried to login but both my USB keyboard and mouse frozen. Ultimately I have hard reboot the system.(note. there is not PS/2 port on the motherboard)

Steps taken

1. I felt graphics card is the problem, So I returned sparkle DDR3 1GB card and got another one EVGA DDR3 1GB card. NO LUCK
2. Felt, there is conflict b/w Video card and USB controllers. So I tried to assign different IRQ numbers on BIOS. NO LUCK
3. Tried installing LInux which perfectly works fine, but again there is no LINUX driver for graphics card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I have been breaking my head all nights past 15 days.

Thanks,

Harvey

Does your motherboard have an option to set the video priority to AGP/PCI-e without disabling the onboard video? If so, try that.

Dell's specs say the graphics chipset is Matrox G200eW. Could there be a conflict between the Matrox driver and your new vid card (nVidia or AMD/ATi)?

Going back to booting without disabling the onboard video, did you check for newer drivers for your motherboard, vid card or the onboard Matrox video?

No guarantee. Just the first things that come to mind if I were checking the problem. Hope it helps. :)

Thank you Friends.

When I boot the system with Onboard video controller, inside Win 7, the EVGA video card is not recognized at all. Tried to install the driver, driver fails with no device found on system. But the graphics card was present in the system.

Secondly, this system motherboard does not have PS/2 ports to connect keyboard/mouse.

After a long fighting, once the system booted to windows log on screen, I tried to remote and logged inside successfully. Remotely I installed the graphics driver and then restarted the system. Still no success attached USB keyboard and mouse gets lockedup once the windows logon screen comes.

I seriously wanted to make work both keyboard and mouse on this system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

If i see the detail of device driver, i find that device not started with error code 10.

If Device Manager identifies the driver for the yellow Enhanced PCI to USB device controller, try uninstalling and re-installing it.

You could also check for later versions of this and other drivers for your motherboard from Dell and Intel and try re-installing them one by one as you think they may relate to your problem.

Is there an alternative PCIe slot to install the add-in graphics card? Trying to think how to work around conflict between main PCIe and USB controllers...

Thanks guys.

Yesterday i was reading an article about Windows 7 USB issues.

Then I removed 4 GB out of 6GB and restarted the system. What a surprise both my usb keyboard and mouse worked perfectly. So now system is at 2GB.

And then I saw an update from below link, i downloaded to fix this more then 3 GB access issues.
But unfortunately, this executable is not running instead it says "this is not for this comptuer"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Deskto...orts-stopped-working-on-Windows-7/td-p/166277

Now, i am stuck here, unable to use all memory i have in the system. I have already removed 4GB out.

Any idea how to execute this microsoft update 976972 ??

At the risk of a lot of work, I'd say it's time to re-install Windows from the ground up. Do it on another drive so you don't lose your current setup and files, just to see if it all works. You've already put in a lot of time trying to fix this one so a new installation may be the fastest way to see if that's the problem.

If the base installation works, transfer your files to the new intallation, clone it back to your original drive (if necessary) and keep stepping. If not, it the problem may be that your dedicated server is not up to serving as a regular desktop machine, and it's time to move to another setup.

Hope that helps. :)

In case you don't know what "cloning" a hard drive is, it's different than just backing up your files. If your main drive becomes corrupted or infected, you can save your recent files and clone back from your last cloned image. If your hard drive dies, the cloned drive works just like the original drive with no re-installation required for Windows or any programs.

You can use a program like Acronis True Image to do it. They sell it for $50, but you can often find it on sale from other resellers for less, and they offer a free trial period so you can deal with your current emergency.

If you own Seagate or Western Digital drives, both companies provide a free version of True Image in their disk tools. The limitation on these versions is that at least one of the drives in the chain (source or target) must be from the manufacturer providing the program.

Acronis True Image WD Edition

Seagate DiscWizard

Since Seagate bought Maxtor, their version also supports Maxtor branded drives. :)

I clone my drive at least once a week, immediately after sweeping for viruses, spyware, etc., and before installing any new program. I keep my backup drive unplugged in a mobile rack like this:

92bk_enlarge4.jpg

When I want to clone my drive, I power down, plug in the drive and reboot to clone the drive. When I'm done, I power down and unplug the drive. No virus can jump the air gap so, with a good clone, they can't take "today" away from you.

Restoring a drive is just as easy. If the main drive is infected or corrupted, boot to the backup drive and clone back. It has saved my butt and those of my non-geek family and friends who rely on me countless times.

I have tried fresh installation on another drive. Still did not help.

Even I have also tried sweeping completely my hard drive and installed a new OS using embeded video controller. Updated Bios, USB and all possible drivers from Dell site. And installed the graphics card and installed driver remotely(bcos after graphics card is enabled at bios both my USB mouse and keyboard are disabled)

If I add more than 2 GB of Memory then both USB keyboard and mouse is getting disabled. So now I'm totally confused. Whether to live without my additional 4Gig of memory or loose graphics card option.

Is there anything something connected b/w USB and Nvidia driver problem ?
Or should i try ATI graphics card. I'm afraid is that a good option what if that also doesnt work.

Pls help.

Hi Guys,

Finally, I am able to success.

The secret lies on the new h/w introduced on the system. i.e the driver of graphics card.

The Nvidia drivers are actually blocking the USB ports when memory is increased more than 3 gig.
When I changed it ATI Radeon video card, then it perfectly booted with 6 Gig of memory successfully.

Alright, This completes my test. If anyone out there, need help on this let me know .

Thanks,
