Key logger or keyboard problem?

This is really starting to bug me.. I've been noticing that upon login to online services (ie amazon, newegg, etc.) my keyboard output would behave erratically.

For example when I tab into a password field and start typing some keys will get missed or focus goes back to the email field and chars get entered there. This is not 100% reproducible but happens enough times for me to notice this.

Yesterday all the sudden my keyboard started missing keys, having trouble writing this post..

I mean basic key logger logic would be to do Keyboard Hooks via DLL injection and run regex on entered strokes to detect an email address and then record subsequent field like a password.

I already ran a bunch of spyware scanners I have and Kaspersky but issue still persists.

Am I being paranoid about key loggers or is it my keyboard acting up? I realize this is a very subjective question given the info I'm providing but has anyone experienced anything similar in the past?

Oh and the keyboard I'm using is the Wireless MS Ergo Natural Keyboard 7000 / Logitech G700 Mouse

Sounds like you have a failing keyboard to me. Try to swap it out, and I suspect your problem will go away.

EDIT: You could also have a corrupted USB driver - try moving the keyboard USB module to another USB port and see what happens.

Tried multiple ports, seems to happen regardless. Dont really have another keyboard laying around to see if its a software problem.

I am monitoring the wireless dongle that has an LED that flashes every time you hit a key, and when the problem happens the light does not come on, so looks like its losing the signal but I have it like 6 inches away from the keyboard...

Do you have another computer you can try it on, like a laptop for instance? That might tell you for sure if it is a hardware issue.

Also, are you using a wireless router or other wireless equipment (i.e. a printer, etc) or do you live in an urban area with high levels of wireless signal congestion? If so, it could be a signal conflict. You might try temporarily killing the power to all wireless sources in your home (i.e. wireless routers, wireless printers, cordless phones, etc) to see if the problem disappears. Of course, you can't do anything about your neighbors other than maybe trying the keyboard at another location.

I just have my Wifi, but I'm in an apt building and there's plenty of other networks around me. Lately there's been a bunch more neighboring networks that I noticed appeared..

Went through a bunch of reviews on Amazon for this model and there's quite a good number of folks reporting the same problem after about a year of usage. Really pissed at MS, for ~ $100 this should not happen.

However I've been using natural layout keyboards for the past decade and Microsoft's models are by far the best as far as typing comfort goes. I guess I just will pick up a $35 wired version of the same keyboard..
