Who thought of the key layout for our keyboards?

I'm sure there is a reason for the keys being in the place they are in, but what is this reason?

QWERTY

why not

ABCDEF?

forgot who invented it but the most used key combinations are in the most accessible places. ex. how many times do you use z and q. :)

No, the most used keys aren't exactly in the best spots.

The keyboard originated from the use of manual typewriters. It was made to keep people from typing faster than the hammers could stike the paper. If you've used one, you know that if you hit several keys at once, the hammers will tangle and get stuck.

The DVORAK keyboard layout is supposed to make the keys that are used the most more accessible. I've been playing with the DVORAK layout. It's kinda tough to change. ;)
