I was doing some maintenance on a new bike yesterday (got a flat - a pin went right into the tire), turned it upside down to take off the wheel, and that's when I noticed there's a plastic key that was inserted into one fork end. It was barely visible outside the fork tube, so I did not notice it for quite some time.
It ends with an allen key, and is used to preload the fork dampener, I guess. Question is: should it really be there all the time? I think the shop just forgot to take it out and place it with all the other manuals and booklets I received. Seems like a sure way to lose it on the trails, if I leave it in the fork... On the other hand, maybe it protects the adjustment nut from the trail dirt getting into it :hmm:
