"It's a disappointment that the camera with the very best [launch] view turned out to be out of focus," shuttle flight manager Ron Dittemore said Thursday. "We've tried to look at alternate camera views, but we know we're not going to get the best view that we could have."

Excuse me??? When the shuttle is at least several hundred meters high (and in this case probably already much higher), then infinte focus is good enough. After 20/25 meters, there is usually no more adjusting.
Blurry, may be... But out of focus?
Why does this sound fake?

blurry=out-of-focus, mis-speak as a result of uber-smart engineer type trying to put up with stupid-ass questions from the press EVERY DAY.

Shuttle Program Manager Ron Dittmore is by far one of the most open people NASA has had.

Conspiracy? No this happens to be the best one I've seen to date. The only reason I even saw this as it was cross posted to the alt.lasers newsgroup which I frequent.

Cheers!
