I've heard this complaint against the airplane industry before. They overbook the plane and then the FAA won't allow them to fly at the weight they have on the plane. So they screw over the passenger and start putting bags on other planes or start unboarding passengers.

You are aware that just because they overbook a plane doesn't mean that there are actually more people on it, right? A fully loaded 737 today just weighs more than a fully loaded 737 did back when they were first being built, because now everyone's a fatass.

That said, unless FAA regs changed between then and now, I have trouble believing that fatter people would cause a plane to exceed a weight rating. The margin can't possibly have been that low.

I'm gonna have to disagree. That would not be in keeping with good customer service, and they dont want the bad publicity. They probably didnt know who Kevin Smith was and that it would be turned into a media debacle. Had they known him, they probably would have worked harder to make him happy.
I dont think any business can be out to get their customers and survive, but when they've got one who's being a hassle, they probably have to make a decision as to when to put their foot down.

Where have you been? Its a running joke about just how bad of customer service they offer. Fees for everything, overbooking, bumping people, cancellations, treating passengers as terrorists, etc.

Then there's these:

I tried finding more, but I don't know what sites I saw them on. There was a case of an airline cancelling a woman's tickets, gave her some bullshit excuses, then admitted they just plain cancelled them for no reason. She had booked them fairly far in advance, and it was for her to get her family to see a relative that was dying. They subsequently screwed everything else from there on up as well. Don't forget the cases of planes waiting and the passengers being stuck onboard for several hours (and the big one where they were there overnight).

Obviously they aren't explicity out to do this stuff, but they sure find a way to make asses of themselves on a regular basis and yes, in many cases its just as much the other party making an ass of themself, but the airlines really are not helping their case that they aren't complete shit as far as customer service goes.

Go back and read what he said. He thinks the airlines are TRYING to be mean just because it gives them a giggle. I said thats not correct. I dont doubt their customer service is poor, but thats because of ridiculous cost-cutting measures just so they can stay in business during a shitty economy.

Why the fuck do so many people think that if things dont work out perfectly for them, somebody has a personal vendetta or something? I think Freud would be very interested in analyzing our nation full of self-absorbed pussies.

This sounds like crap. Are you saying planes are flying right at the max weight level? That doesn't sound safe at all. Planes should be loaded way under the max limit, just for safety cushion.

When I was flying from Seattle a couple years ago, we were seconds from take off and they made an announcement that the plane was too heavy and they were going to be moving a portion of the luggage to another flight. Somehow, my stuff stayed on board but one of my travel companions had to wait 6 hours at the airport for their bags.

Google it. It isn't that unusual.
This the is the airline industry we are talking about here. They threw customer service out the window years ago... then got embolden on 9-11 to act even more like a bunch of cocks.

It wasn't that they got emboldened on 9/11 to act more like assholes, it's that 9/11 screwed the air industry. Their profits took a nose dive and the entire air industry was taking losses, so they had to cut costs as much as possible. Which means filling as many flights as possible, canceling underbooked planes, etc. And I have no sympathy for fat people who get shuffled off for trying to fit in one seat. Either put in the effort to lose the weight or get a second seat. I know that Kevin Smith originally bought two but there is no way he would fit into one, that is a complete BS lie.

I'm the one who said it, so I kinda know what I meant (and why I clarified that).

im sure that the MTOW (maximum take off weight) for planes are conservative, for those worried about the 'safety cushion' for fatties.

also, southwest does not charge baggage fee for two bags, so guess what? everyones taking two bags filled with shit. that is probably why they have to bump people off the plane.

but when you bump people off the plane, would you rather bump one lardass and have one pissed off customer, or two or three normal weight people to get the plane off the ground?

im sure that tubby @ 400lbs and two bags @ 25lbs would outweigh 2x 150lbs and 4x 25lbs.
