The best and brightest the GOP has to offer.

House majority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) embarrassed himself with a complaint about Twitter “censorship” that was actually a function of his own account settings.

McCarthy was unable to see a “sensitive” tweet by Fox News host Laura Ingraham and took to Twitter to post a screenshot and threaten chairman Jack Dorsey with hearings over “censorship.”

“Another day, another example of conservatives being censored on social media. @jack easy fix: explain to Congress what is going on.”

Not that surprising. If used to be that GOP politicians used conservative media to dupe the rubes into believing this sort of conspiracy theory nonsense of conservative persecution. That changed a while back though and now conservative politicians believe all the same bullshit conservative voters do.

I have little doubt that McCarthy had heard through conservative media that Twitter was persecuting conservatives. When he saw this he probably thought he had caught them in the act. He never thought to stop and think that conservative media was just playing him yet again.

It also doesn't help that he is as dumb as a bag of hammers. How he could be considered for the position of speaker of the house.... never mind... I forgot what party we are talking about.

Fuck now we'll have to listen to months and years of whining from tajbot, incorruptible, boomerang, DSF, etc about how that one time Twitter censored Laura Ingraham and was busted by the GOP House leadership.

Not really surprising. Did you watch them try and grill Mark Zuckerberg? Social media is a mystery for a lot of these dinosaurs.

Yeah, I found the whole question that old guy asked “What’s your competition? If I wanted to use something else what choice do I have”
That guy totally missed the point if I choose let’s say twitter and you choose Facebook we simply don’t see each other’s stuff.

The really great part is that all of those posters believe in censoring liberal opinions.

I'm beginning to wonder if jumping to irrational conclusions is a bug of conservatism or a feature.

This is why they need to be removed from power.

Too dumb, corrupt or incompetent to be able to use it without abuse.

Also, LOL @ "small government" conservatives personally threatening CEOs of tech companies to do personal IT troubleshooting else Congressional hearings.

What next, DM CEO of Ford to look into why his brakes are squeaking?

The irony?

This level of reactionary stupid is precisely the level of reactionary stupid by our resident alt-righters.

I'm beginning to see a connection.

If you can vomit out said irrational conclusions into your Fox News megaphone without ever being held accountable then it's most certainly a feature.

Almost as good as Ted Cruz accidentally posting porn to his verified twitter account.

It is almost like the resident alt-righters want to fail upward.

Our politicians are not the best and brightest we have to offer. Those folks don't go into politics or government. Why the heck would they?

I met countless old, white, behind the times dinosaurs who were making decisions for us when I was still a journalist back before 2000. I don't expect things have changes much since then.

Twitter is a private company with 1st Amendment rights to put or not put whatever content they want on their website. McCarthy is living up to his last name.

It's really a catch-22: people get all butthurt about "career politicians" and then get mad when they only people they can attract as candidates are old. Of course young people don't want to serve, you've made it a disgrace to have a career!

His tweet is the modern Republican party in a nutshell. Get outraged by something that isn't happening, provide evidence that isn't real, demand action on the pretend issue and refuse t acknowledge that that whole thing was made up even when faced with incontrovertible evidence.

Twitter management ought to tweak the error message to be more informative (e.g. "This post has been blocked by @[username]'s adult-content filter settings.") and make sure the new version propagates to all tweets and retweets of posts with the old one.
