Well, it did [/career] for Costner, pretty much.

He has pretty much a lifeless acting style to me, but he did make 2 great films:

Bull Durham
Field of Dreams

 
He plays the western role very well. Dances with wolves he was great in and he was ok in open range. My fav movie he was in though would be robin hood even though its kinda corny its still a good movie especially when i was like only 8 the first time i saw it. He gets ripped on a lot but I think he does a very good job playing the roles hes given.
