Kerry's just parroting his speechwriters

"John Kerry said something amazing the other day. He was talking to the Wall Street Journal and was asked about his many attacks on ''Benedict Arnold CEOs'' -- for example: ''We will repeal every single benefit, every single loophole, every single reward for any Benedict Arnold CEO or corporation that take American jobs overseas and stick you with the bill.'' (Kerry in Virginia, Feb. 10)

Senator Flippy has now decided this line is nonoperative. As he told the chaps at the Journal, ''You know, I called a couple of times to overzealous speechwriters and said 'Look, that's not what I'm saying.' Benedict Arnold does not refer to somebody who in the normal course of business is going to go overseas and take jobs overseas. That happens. I support that. I understand that. I was referring to the people who take advantage of noneconomic transactions purely for tax purposes -- sham transactions -- and give up American citizenship. That's a Benedict Arnold. You give up your American citizenship but you want to continue to do business.''

Got that? When Kerry talks about ''any Benedict Arnold CEO or corporation that takes American jobs overseas,'' he's not referring to someone who ''takes jobs overseas.'' Perish the thought! He's all in favor of taking jobs overseas. It wasn't him who attacked all those ''Benedict Arnold CEOs,'' just his ''overzealous speechwriters.'' And the minute he discovered it was going on, he called them to say, ''Look, that's not what I'm saying.''"

Hahaha. Vinatge Kerry.

Pretty much all politicians have speechwriters. So what?

It's great that Kerry is correcting himself. I'd rather have someone who can admit mistakes over a moron surrounded by yes-men who can't see a useless war even after the WMD myth has been debunked.

I for one don't have a problem for repealing tax breaks and benefits for companies that move jobs overseas. These are perks. If they're becoming internatation or foreign companies deep down, they don't need American perks anymore.

I already knew this... whenever he talks about the "Benedict Arnold" CEOs he goes on to say how he wants to stop them from taking advantage of the current tax code..

Umm, he blamed his speechwriters for being overzealous. I don't exactly call that admiting a mistake.

Maybe your right. I guess it depends on how you see "admitting a mistake." I like that he just went against the Benedict Arnold thing. It would have been worse if he said a stupid comment then refused to budge on it out of some necessity to "stay the course." I think he realizes he made a mistake by saying it and was trying to explain his position more clearly.

does anyone remember when bush had to answer some questions without help a month or so back?
they asked him something like 'what do you think the administration has failed at?' and bush responded with some awkward, mealy-mouthed jibber-jabber about how hard it is to answer questions and how nothing was popping into his head. cringe television at its finest.

If I was a Kerry supporter I'd probably have to resort to responses like that too.

Pretty hard to defend your man, isn't it?

Yeah that's probably why they are following the Bush supporters lead of attacking the other candidate instead of talking about their candidates accomplishments.

This race isn't about who would be best ofr the country but who would be worse. We've already witnessed the harm that the Dub has done, can Kerry do worse? Maybe, but we won't know unless he defeats the Dub.

I'm curious if we're going to see any unscripted debates between the two come election time. I would find that highly entertaining.

I can't wait to see a debate between them. Kerry- a seasoned debater and politician, versus Bush, who can't even speak English correctly. Maybe I misunderestimate him.

A Yale education isn't what it used to be. :)

I think there's a book about Bush titled "Misunderestimated". He didn't object to the use of the expression as the title.
