Presidential candidate, senator John Kerry co-sponsored a bill last year that would have banned a gun that he has been waving around recently. Here's one story of this recen...n the Drudge Report. There are many others out there. According to the article, Kerry would not have even been able to receive the gun as a gift had this peice of legislation been passsed! I just think this story is Hilarious!

But Wait!!!... Here comes Kerry's rebut. So Kerry actually doesn't want to ban this gun. ... And I love the end of the article where it states that "The Republican Party and George Bush's campaign will stop at nothing to mislead voters about John Kerry's record. We challenge Bush to engage in honest debates--West Virginians deserve to hear the truth." What's misleading about the facts? What's misleading about the record? The only thing misleading here is the conflicting sides.

John Kerry has a problem. He changes sides of way too many issues. The American public is confused about him and that's why he's losing. I have no problem with people changing their mind about an issue. But it's when they keep changing their minds that I tend to start not believing what they are saying. Kerry will never admit that he's wrong (or was previously wrong) about anything. He want's to be everything to everyone. I think the public is smarter than that, and is starting to catch on. Much to the dismay of presidential hopeful, John Kerry.

That section, as clearly stated in the Dridge article, specifically mentions only a grip or a thumbhole stock, neither of which the gun held by Kerry represents. The entire article seems based on the ambigutiy of the phrase "any other characteristic that can funtion as a grip."

Until that (admittedly vague) statement is clarified, which will probably be cleared up by the courts if not in Congress, then there is no evidence that that article is accurate in saying that this particular weapon is banned under it's proscriptions.

Thus, the Drudge article is disingenuous.

Surprise, Sruprise.
 
The bill is so vague that it would ban a lot of weapons. Honestly though, who submits a bill that is thrown together like that? I know grade school kids who are more clear than that. I agree that there needs to be more clarification before this can turn into a real debate, but why didn't Kerry come out and dispell the rumors himself? Maybe he will... And maybe he'll tell us where he stands on gun control while he's at it.
