That absolutely has to be one of the most undignified and disrespectful things he has ever said. Sounds like the kind of pitch a used car salesman would try and use. Sorry but I expect a little more of a sense of dignity in a presidential candidate.

And that's exactly why the neocons will jump all over this to make Kerry look bad (and why they hated Clinton). They will do whatever they can to distort this or take it out of context.
Remember that the neoconservatives are the combination of Northern McCarthyist Republicans and Southern Democrats who defected to the Lincoln Party after the Democratic party embraced the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s. In other words, the neocons are (and always have been) racist to the core.

PELarson, it doesn't make a difference, not only is it double edged (it could be 'misconstrued' as him belittling clinton's attention to the black community, or it could be 'misconstrued' as him saying that's the closest that we will come to having a black president), he should have not said it. It's often joked that President Clinton is the first black president, which is fine, but not fine for politicians to joke about. It is not a PC joke, and luckily for him, not many people picked up on it!

it still comes down to kerry being better than bush (that's not saying much). i would go for nader, but he is too idealogical, i don't think it would work, and i don't think he would win. my vote has to go to someone who can knock bush out of office.

Apology accepted. One of the reasons I keep reading this forum is despite the heated arguments, we have managed to stay out of the gutter for the most part. I dont think racist jokes have a place anywhere. Let us keep the neighborhood clean. Red, you are honorable.

It's a joke among black people that Clinton was the first black president because of his charisma, his empathy towards minorities in general, and his wicked skills with the
Saxophone. Oh and his thing for bj's.

Blacks respected Clinton, and is it so wrong for Kerry wanting to follow the footsteps of Clinton and be highly regarded by the black community?
