i seem to have both this file kernel32.dll and kernell32.dll in my win xp pro. Anyone can confirm if there's a kernell32.dll in win xp pro under windows/system32?

Agreed. Spyware has a habit of duplicating or imitating the filenames of standard Windows components. Most users aren't even aware of system processes, but there are a few out there that are starting to learn about their PC's workings. They know that some processes are normal - but if it looks really close to something that they do know should be there, they're not likely to get rid of it.
But you've done something that's dangerous for spyware - asked about it. 🙂
Best of luck to you in ridding yourself of spyware.
The usual recommendations for spyware removers are AdAware and Spybot.

what a stupid suggestion. Just delete kernell32.dll. Don't delete kernel32.dll or windows won't work at all. kernel32.dll is Windows' kernel (i.e. heart/core/brain), and if deleted you would need to do a reinstall.

Phew. Good thing you're here to keep eigen in line or else we might have had a real disaster!! I found his suggestion quite humourous 🙂 At any rate, I'd bet windows would actually protect people from simple things like using explorer to delete the kernel. If it were that easy to remove the spyware would have just replaced it with it's own version.

i've done a system restore and the file kernell32.dll was no longer there. Yes its netpal as detected by spyware doctor.

Now whenever i load IE, spyware doctor will detect advanced searchbar. Is this malicious and how can i delete it off? Coz whever i del it off, it will be there again whever IE is loaded. 🙁

I repair sarcasm meters for a nominal fee. Are you interested?

When you have more than 16 posts. Then maybe try and flame the other members.

You have to be careful, it's possible that spyware could conceivably re-name the original file, and insert itself into the system as the original file, and then chain back to it. I would delete both of them, and extract the original version of the file from some known-clean install media.

Virtual Larry, I don't think that could happen with the kernel. Eigen, I don't think that number of posts is directly proportional to knowledge.

No, but it is a general indicator of how much time you spend reading the forums. And usually if you spend more time reading what people around here write you learn to recognize when they are, or aren't, being serious. 500 posts from now I hope you have the ability to understand why he said what he said.

OK, understood, but the person who started this thread has posted less than me (although been here a little longer), so I don't know if they would've realised that eigen was joking. BTW, I don't think it's fair that I'm being flamed for this.

Oh, yeah, kind of overlooked that it was the kernel itself. Sorry. 😛
Still, "kernell" (with two ells), isn't normal at all. Something is amiss.
