unable to mount root FS on 3:45

Me - total newbie trying to learn redhat 6.1

I bought a new hdrive, copied everything from old hdrive as a backup measure, able to boot Win95 from both, then decided I wanted Linux, reformatted new hdrive, with two windows partitions and leftover space intended for Linux

redhat installation went ok except I mistakenly selected automatic and redhat installed itself into a second partition on old drive but that was ok since it apparently booted from lilo and i messed around with it some - able to dual boot the old hdrive and/or new hdrive (with just w95 on it)

but then at some point linux would only yield cascading 0's, 1's and wouldn't boot - i think around that time i'd installed a new modem and joystick - anyway i stopped messing with it

then recently I'm checking just to see and I get to the above noted panic notice

I think maybe w95 somehow took over the rest of its hdrive cuz now explore c:/properties/tools accounts for the entire drive, while before with linux working w95 only accounted for its partition and apparently didn't 'see' the linux part.

question - How do I fix this? Or better to re-install redhat and if so will it just simply overwrite the previous unaccessible redhat ???

hey this is fun
thanx for any help
