This receiver is inferior to the $99 receiver from the other thread. The VR-615 uses cheaper IC chips instead of the discrete amplification offered by the VR-6050 (basically, the 6050 would sound more lifelike & dynamic and handle heat better).

Additionally, the 6050 has a number of features including a better remote, more inputs/outputs, and decoding for several modes such as Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES that this receiver does not offer.

Don't get me wrong, it's still probably a good value at $83, but the other receiver is WELL worth another $16.

The VR-615 does have at least one advantage over the VR-6050. It comes with an additional 100-watt amplified channel which can be used for a subwooofer or an additional surround channel.

If you already own a good-quality passive subwoofer, or if you're thinking of running with a center surround channel, the VR-615 might be worth your consideration. Personally, I think that as good a value as this receiver is, the VR-6050 is even better.

Just my 2¢.
