Kenwood KDC-9017 Car CD Player

Anyone have one of these? I bought mine over a year ago and wasn't impressed at first with it's shock handling capabilities. I'm thinking "Ok, I can overlook that" but then months later, when hitting bumps, the damn thing resets! It's a problem with the faceplate, because sometimes after hitting a bump, I need to wiggle the faceplate to get it to even turn back on. A little peeved at this, but I'll deal, right? Well, a few days ago, when I turned my car on, the faceplate just flipped down as if it were about to eject a disc, but nothing comes out, and just stays like that. I tried hitting the reset (to clear the memory) and nothing helps. All that happens is the faceplate flips down while the car is on and plays nothing, then when I shut the car off, the faceplate hides itself like it usually does when the car is off. Anyone heard anything about this? I'm trying to look for a place to contact Kenwood to see if I can get a replacement or a repair... I paid $400 for this damn thing and it's worse than the $200 deck it replaced :|

That sucks dood. I don't know much about that problem, but I stick with Pioneer exclusively for head units. (Once it gets fixed you may want to sell it)

The Pioneer deck I had before this one worked flawlessly, rarely skipped and never gave me probs, cost me half of what I paid for this POS :|

I have a JVC because it matched the interior of my car extremely well (and surprisingly, is a great bang for the buck), but I highly recomend a Pioneer unit to you.

Good luck.

Well I emailed them, if I don't hear from them this week I'm gonna try calling them, we'll see what happens....

I have a Kenwood Excelon something or another (bought it a couple years back for $300). What a piece of junk! I had it installed in Oregon for the drive up to Alaska. By the time I got to Alaska the CD mechanism would not eject CDs. Ok, called up and got a replacement. A few months go by and it does the same damn thing! It spits out the CD about a 1/4 of an inch and then stops. Sucks but the CD player still works. Couple more months go by and the now it won't play the first 3-4 tracks of ANY CD, and it stopped playing CD-Rs all together.

Now, it won't play CDs period. What a piece of junk!
