Can anyone tell me where I can buy one of these? I'm looking for one with a black bezel and I heard that they have been discontinued.

If you want pure read speed that sure, grab one. It's fast. Though if you use a lot of CDR media don't, get something else. In my experience, as well as in that of many others, it reads CDRs like... something that reads CDRs horribly. I have no idea how many times explorer has crashed while my Kenwood is trying to read a CDR. Thank goodness I have a burner I can read 'em in.

At least it's really quiet. There is a firmware update, but I haven't tried it yet. Without it, it reads most things but does struggle with an occassional CD-R.

I believe they were discontinued awhile back. Try posting a WTB on the For Sale/Trade forum.

But why do you want a 72x CD-ROM? It's much faster than you'll ever need and probably a little noisy..

I have this CDRom and it is the quietest I have ever seen. Speed is fantastic too. Although I must admit, I rarely use a CD_R in it but haven't had any trouble so far.

so buy it. Its not that expensive.. Ive heard about the CDR problems but if you dont use them all that much its worth the $. I think Goldstar CD Roms are nice.. My last 3 have been from Goldstar.. never had a problem since 1995

If you want this CDrom, I can't blaim you, I have one too :). As far as reading CD-rs goes, just read them from your CD-writer.

I bought mine directly from CompUSA when they first came out, not sure where to get them now.

I've only had a few problems, one caused by me dropping the drive; and one that was fixed with the firmware update. I can read most cd-r's with it, but the cheap cd-r's do have some problems. It's nice and quiet and fast, I have no complaints about it, but I do realize it can be a buggy drive.
