Just picked up good kid m.A.A.d city...really good album. Anyone else digging this? Still need to check out his first album. Great low-key production and hooks--can't believe I didn't get this sooner.

I saw him on a BET cipher and thought he was pretty unremarkable. Don't think I've heard any real tracks from him though.

Yea the album is real good, it's a the whole is greater than the sum of the parts deal though. My favorite tracks are Backseat Freestyle, Money Trees, Swimming Pools, The Recipe.

Yeah for sure. I really like A$AP too. Actually picked up LongLive and LiveLove (?) but haven't listened to them all the way through yet. Probably this afternoon while I am coding :D I got hooked on his track Purple Swag and had to pick up the albums.

For sure man...I love the story he tells on the album. I love all those tracks, but my favorite is probably "Compton" just for the hook, lol. That shit was stuck in my head last night, I could barely sleep. Probably going to listen to the album AGAIN today...hahaha.

Actually come to think of it, Money Trees and Swimming Pools are in my head a lot too...DRANK

Meek Millz, Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar all my go to's.

Not going to lie though, 2 chainz lyrical "Excellence" is hugely entertaining.

Lolol. Agreed. However, I did like his performance on Kanye's MERCY. That's a pretty good track.

Do you have Kendrick's first album?

very good album, much better than his first IMO. this one is actually getting serious praise in the hip hop community. Hiphopdx.com, one of the more trusted review sources, raved about it and its drawing comparisons to none other than Illmatic for his storytelling ability. An instant hip hop classic IMO, and in many others opinion as well.

also, money trees FTW

I'm not really a huge fan of the "west" side of the rap scene, i just can't get into him. I love some good new york rap though. Fabolous is releasing a preview track for Loso's Way 2 this weekend, so I'm excited about that. Also Juelz Santana just released a mixtape on January 14th and it's got some good tracks on it.

Been waiting for what seemed like 10 years for it, and totally out of the blue I discovered that Chino XL"s RICANstruction had came out recently. It's a double album, and if you like lyricists it's a god damn master piece. For the most part the beats are solid too. I haven't listened to it enough to give it a definite score. But it's easily one of the best albums I've heard in a long time.

N---a why you babysittin' only 2 or 3 shots?
I'ma show you how to turn it up a notch
First you get a swimming pool full of liquor, then you dive in it
Pool full of liquor, then you dive in it
I wave a few bottles, then I watch em all flock
All the girls wanna play Baywatch
I got a swimming pool full of liquor and they dive in it
Pool full of liquor I'ma dive in it

Kendrick Lamar is the only one of the new "mainstream" rappers I actually like to listen to. Meek Mill is decent but his accent is hard for me to understand and I hate Rick Ross groaning in his songs.

good kid m.A.A.d city was a really good album, best I've heard in a long time.

Sean >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Meek Mill.

Not really a huge fan of either. I can't listen to mill's voice for very long but i enjoyed some songs on dreamchasers 2, also big sean is just kinda stale in my opinion, and he doesn't really say much. That being said, i did actually download his latest mixtape and i like a select few songs.

Okay...I've listened to this album seriously twice a day all this week. There are definitely places in his rhymes where it feels kind of weak, but really what makes this album is that it's a big story instead of just some dude bragging about robbing people, smoking, and drinking booze. It's a bit deeper than just the regular gangsta rap that came out of Compton in the late 80s and early 90s.

ill have to check this out. i like all of the songs i've heard by him on the radio. he's one of the new rappers that i actually like.

also feeling 2 chains, but more in a 3-6 mafia kind of way, where they rap about dumb shit but it just sounds good and is almost funny to listen to.

Finally got around to listening to some ASAP. He uses this "UH" vocal sample way too much. Great stuff though.
