It was definetly looked pre-recorded and her voice altered, she messed up a few times with trying to lipsync to the music. I thought that MTV performances were usually live, but I am almost sure this was predone. Anybody else see it?

Yeah, I was on the computer and talking to my girl on the phone when I watched the rebroadcast, so I didn't notice that it was a lip-sync......guess it makes sense tho, since it sounded pretty good. I was rather impressed.......by the singing. her moving like she's an attractive 18 years...........ewwwwww.

Saw an ad for MTV "Making the Video" for her rendition of "Papa Don't Preach", so I guess we'll see some more of her soon.

I had never heard the recorded version until this afternoon while walking around Target. It sounded EXACTLY like her performance on MTV. I find it hard to believe she would lip sync, but who knows.

I'm pretty sure the whole event was pre-recorded. If you were watching closely, you will notice that alot of the swears are blocked out. I mean, how could the editors have known that a swear was coming up, in order to block it (if it was live).

I think the WWF (WWE, whatever) records its supposedly live Monday night shows about 10 minutes ahead of time. That's why in most of the in-ring segments when the wrestlers swear, it gets "blanked" out (where you hear no audio except background crowd noise) for about a split second.

The MTV movie award were on Monday night I believe. She may have done it live for the show, but its clear that either she lip synced or MTV edited in the studio recording.

MTV has had tons of lip synched performances. Nsync and Britney Spears do it a lot, mostly just to their choruses, but they still pretend they're singing them. Stupid. Kelly was lip syncing, it was obvious. I wouldn't expect her to do that either, but whatever, it's not like I really care. I think Eminem was singing over his real song too, he was definitely singing, but I kinda thought he had the full version going on in the background. I wish the White Stripes had done something with legos for their performance.

If I were an awards show producer I wouldn't let anyone on who was gonna lip sync. That is just dumb. I wouldn't even let Michael or Janet Jackson do their famous lip syncs. I've seen J.Lo do some syncing as well. I wouldn't let anyone do it, no matter how much the ratings may be affected by some singer missing the show. So what? At least I would have some respect for myself. Stupid lazy musicians.

Most live shows, including SNL and wrestling use the '7 Second Delay'.

Maybe someone else can add to it/correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember hearing the first time SNL used the time delay it was because Richard Pryor was hosting and the producers considered him so unpredictable that they wanted those few seconds to be able to block out anything that could be thought of as offensive.

I think it was Andrew Dice Clay that made SNL use the delay.

She can't sing, plain and simple. Her voice has no range and she is completely untalented. The rock cover of the song worked well but that isn't her doing so I'm not giving her the credit for that. Just another case of nepotism in Hollywood/music industry IMO.

it's not that they're lazy. it's just that they move and dance a lot that their voice would sound horrible if they didnt.

that being said, no one on mtv is worth watching anyway. glad i didnt watch the awards

Newsflash, folks, she WAS singing LIVE. Her band was playing LIVE. I didn't think Ozzy would let his daughter lip-sync.

I saw it, and there is no doubt in my mind, and if there was, she was on one of the morning shows this a.m., and they asked her about it and she says definitely it was live.

Yah, and Milli Vanili didnt lip sync either.... I thought it sounded extremely canned. Plus, why is she being made into a star? She doesnt have 'look'...

Consider it shameless cross-promotion by MTV. They did it all during the show. They had Martin come out at one point to provide "filler time" and promote his stand-up comedy movie coming out in August. Kelly was singing to promote "The Osbournes".

Video killed the radio star.....
