Are any of these blue book companies worth a spit?

2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS, alloy wheel, 66k miles, few small dents, otherwise very clean.

Plug in the same info to each site...

Edmunds: $2500
KBB: $4700

Pretty dang big disparity between the two.

When selling, ask for the higher to start...
When buying, offer the lower to start...

In both cases expect a compromise...one consideration not included in such sites is recent repairs and PM documentation, and while their absence wouldn't devalue a car, (the sites presume necessary repairs based on mileage), both of which could raise it some...

KBB has no basis in reality. NADA is the best one that non-dealership people can access.

But by all means, if you can get what KBB says it's worth, do it.

Dealerships use the Black Book. That's the most accurate, but you can't get to it for free.

I know VA uses NADA for tax purposes.

But best to look at eBay and craigslist to see what cars like yours are selling for and use that as well.
