I am thinking about upgrading my system (or maybe an overhaul). However, there are some factors that are worrying me, and I'm not too good with the newest technology (I used to be).

I will be getting the Intel 875P chipset. However, I read that later this year, Prescott will be released by Intel, with more features. When Prescott is released, will I need a new mobo to support Prescott's new features, or are those features enjoyed just by installing the processor?

The first generation of Prescotts will be useable on an 865/875 motherboard.

Can I ask why you are choosing the 875 over 865? I thought the 875 was manily for the server end of the market where ECC RAM was needed, and the 865 was more for home users.
