Hey there SSD experts,
Here's my situation: I'm getting a new Dell Latitude E4300 with SSD from work. It will have a Samsung SSD which according to Anand's latest article we all know is not exactly the top performer out there. However, I want to make the best of it...
First thing I am planning to do is wipe the Vista install and put a clean install of Windows 7. Here's my question:
In order to minimize "used" perf degradation, should I do HDD Erase as Anand described in the SSD Anthology topic on "Restoring Your Drive to Peak Performance"?
Or, should I first check if I got a drive with the Samsung garbage collection as described in the latest article under "What's Wrong With Samsung?"? I figure since it is a new machine, I may have chance of getting the latest.
In other words, if garbge collection is enabled, is Secure Erase no longer needed?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
