I'm talking with a friend of mine who needs to return a recently purchased, non defective product. Is the (online) retailer out of line in not accepting the return w/o the original packaging (this person decided to throw the packaging out immediately).

Hmm, a lot of companies these days say that you have to have the original packaging. Not sure why.

I bought a pair of running shoes last month, didn't like them all that much, and I had to return with the original packaging. Otherwise, no dice.

Some people bust up the packaging pretty good and they still take that back - what's the point of requiring the original packaging... it's not like they can package it up, re-seal and throw it back on the shelves in every case... why require it in every case ? I think it should be accepted as long as all the items are included and a receipt is present.

Yeah, I tend to agree w/ the consensus. It's definitely expected, hopefully he learned to keep the packaging. 😛

It'd certainly be good CS to do it though.
