Keeping Outlook Express Files Through Format (Win2k)?

I have seen this discussed, and people said there is a file in my users and settings that is my message database. I looked in there under my name in the application data section, and could not find it. I did find an address book file, but nothing that seemed like it would be a database of messages.

And whatever file this is, can I just copy it over the file that gets put there during the reformat?

Here's what you need to do:

1) Start OE
2) Go to Tools - Options - Maintenance tab
3) Click Store Folder
4) Copy that path name and past it in your address bar or run box
5) Copy every file out of that directory and then put it back in the same place when you've reformatted

Or you can go to "file" and "export" in Outlook and export all of your messages and address's to a .pst file. Once you get your stuff reloaded you can then import the .pst file and voila...all of your stuff is back! 🙂

I am using outlook express.

When I go to export, it says it is only for OUTLOOK or something, not outlook EXPRESS.

Thanks much, I found it 😉

I wonder if this will also save the e-mail accounts I have it checking?

No, but you can save those too. Just go to Tools - Accounts and click Export. Do this for EACH account you want to save.

HansXP,

THANK YOU SO MUCH 😀

You don't know how useful that will be for my clients and I. Actually, I'm a little embarrassed to have missed it, though MS did a pretty good job burying it.

Thanks again,

Modus
