Windows 98 SE w/ Intrernet Explorer 5.5 & 56K ISP:
I usually have several IE windows open at a time. The problem/frustration occurs when I open a new window or click an existing open window to a new website and then while it's downloading I switch back to another window to finish viewing it, but as the other window finishes downloading it pops back on top of the one I was viewing. Is there a simple setting I'm missing that prevents this nuisance from occurring??

I would like to know also. I think that IE4 used to open new windows in the background.

There is really nothing you can do aside from using another browser like Opera that actually has this option.

When the IE window comes up its simply giving itself focus. This type of behavior is normally hardcoded into a app and as such is not fixable except by Microsoft (or whoever wrote the offending program).

1. Download TweakUI here.

2. Set the "prevent applications from stealing focus" checkbox.

I have WinXP and have no problems with IE windows stealing focus...I used to have Win2K and couldn't get tweakUI to work properly, you may have better luck on Win98
