Keeping grease off the keyboard/controller is a high priority

For me it is. Wondered if it is for anyone else. I can't stand to play pc games or post online with even a slightly greasy keyboard. It seems I would lose control when fighting online if it was greasy. Or take longer and be a hassle to post something.

So I wash my hands more after getting them just a little bit greasy from handling something greasy/oiling like some foods or when working around in the house.

That may make for more hygiene but it doesn't mean my keyboard has less germs. Because if my hands have dry germs I'll use the keyboard. So if I handled a dirty paper towel that didn't have any greasy stuff on it I would brush off the dry dirt from my hands and go on playing on the keyboard.

I don't like anything tacky or greasy on the stuff I handle. I wash my hands before handling my computer stuff. I also keep baby wipes in the work truck. I'll eat my lunch with filthy hands, but use the wipes after eating an orange to get the sticky off my hands :^D

Someone really needs to design a conventional keyboard that's easy to clean.

Nobody cleans game controllers either. Nothing like going over to a buddy's place, picking up a controller, and it feels like it's been dipped in axel grease. Bad enough when it's your own filth.

Yeah, fuck that. I almost never clean my stuff either, but my hands are always clean so it tends to not be an issue until some philistine comes over and gets pizza grease all over everything.

Use some damn utensils, wipe your hands on your pants or a napkin before using keyboard and mouse, and wash hands regularly. Nothing to it. None of my keyboards are ever greasy because even if I do get shit on them, I clean it off -- they get dusty as hell though.

Having worked IT before, I know that I am in the minority. Effing sauces, sticky stains, shit, dust stuck to all of the above, etc.

lulz... 50%.

It's kind of hard to find strong alcohol anymore, especially in discount stores. It's almost free to make. I wouldn't think cutting the alcohol would save that much money.

But, save half a penny on every bottle shipped and pretty soon you'll have a whole dollar, if you're a large manufacturer with regular monthly operating expenses of tens of thousands of dollars you might even save a couple hundred bucks.

Alcohol is overkill for anything but a yearly cleaning anyway, unless your place is party central or you have some really greasy friends.

70% is usually what I find at the store. The 90% seems harder to find. But 50%? I don't think I've ever seen it before in person.

I can't play with a slippery controller. Even back in the NES/SNES days I would look at my friends with disgust when they'd reach for the controller right after taking their grease-covered hands out of a bag of chips.

You only need TWO FINGERS to eat chips, moron! Even then, wipe, lick, wash, or do something before you touch my controllers.

You dickheads.

The purpose of water in alcohol is to keep it from evaporating immediately so it can do its job longer.

50% is a lot safer on most plastics. 93% and higher can usually melt / distort many.

Here 50, 70, 90 93 are usually available.

Here it's 50, 70, and very rarely 90, with 50 being the greatest majority. I never even heard of 50% alcohol until 10 or 15 years ago. 70% was the standard concentration. You can probably get anything you want if you're willing to special order, or ask for something behind the counter, but shelf alcohol is mostly 50%

I was staying at my buddy's cottage while he was off in Europe. Wanted to play some Mario Kart, so I grabbed his GameCube controller, and it was... slimy.

Don't even want to think about what he'd been doing with it.

I keep at least 4 or 5 brand new keyboards for when the old one gets all gunked up.
