What's the best way to keep dust out of my case. I've got a real dusty apartment, only had my computer a month, and it is looking pretty dusty.

Some say put pantyhose on the fan intakes, but they have to be changed pretty frequently. Any advice??

Any filter will have to be changed frequently. More so in a dusty environment.

Maybe you should clean your house? ;)

I wouldnt use panty hose or dryer sheets. Small dust particles are gonna get in regardless, so you can either buy some filters specific for computer fans, or maybe some screen material like you use for screen doors on your house. that would catch some of the larger particles, but using panty hose would really restrict airflow. Canned air comes in handy

Yeah, I don't know why the house is so dusty, there's a brand new filter in.

I thought about the air flow restriction. I guess I'll just have to do some trial and error.

You can buy filters designed for room air cleaners. I've some that are 4" round that work wonderful. They last about a year, but you need to shake them out every few months. Temp readings didn't go up when I put them on. I know some say it restricts airflow, but I haven't had a problem. Besides that canned air is expensive, better to use a reversable vacum if you want to go that route. Or you can get the dust masks that are sold in Hardware stores, they fit over the fan intakes too and the curved surface provides a larger area/less restriction. But they don't last as long.

Panyhose? Hmmmmm......

Just use regular screen like you have across your windows, it keeps the big dust bunnies out.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't thought about the dust masks. And yes, canned air is pretty expensive.

Somebody on one of the other discussion boards I frequent said he had good luck using 3M scrub pads designed for cleaning pots and pans. He bought a couple and just rotated them, throwing the dirty one in the dishwasher when he took it off the computer.
