Keep your eye on the road! Dragon bites a hog

I think if he kept scraping the pegs, he may have squeezed by.

My cousin is a TN state trooper. The said the cruisers are the reason they had to sit around every corner. They kept killing themselves

Watch that goldwing video.. The key to going fast isn't scraping the pegs, it's leaning off the bike enough to where you don't have to lean the bike itself so far.. In other words, if it's scraping = lean off more.

I had a suzuki boulevard.. Basically an intruder 800.. It's a laid back cruiser but not quite an ultraglide type size bike. I was faster on that in the corners than 90% of these kids on 600s.. It's all about being comfortable leaning way off the bike and knowing how tires feel as they start to break loose.

From how far he flew and the fact that he doesn't appear to be sliding after impacting the ground, do you think maybe they actually weren't going that fast when they collided?

I hope the guy is ok

Since it was just photos you don't get a sense of speed, I thought it was going to be a small bump.

yep, if you're scraping pegs that means you are leaning the bike too far, and you need to lean off of the bike more to keep it more upright.

I've been on the Dragon numerous times... Anyone can be a hazard there and not just the cruisers. I've had cruisers in my lane several times, but I've also had some punk in a riced out import too many times to count.

This guy was carrying some speed, but I would guess that the speed coupled with his intent to wave to the photographer is what did him in.

I try to ride the dragon during the week and not the weekends. More space, less idiots.

That said, there are some fantastic roads all over down there and I highly recommend Rt 209 out of Waynesville heading north to Hot Springs. Also, one of the best to ride is "The Snake" which runs NW out of Mountain City, TN. Closer in towards Asheville and Charlotte, is The Diamondback and the Devil's Whip... Basically starts at Rt 80 out of Marion, NC.

Have fun, wear the gear, and stay in your lane.

biker is a noob.

..."what's this 'apex' thing I keep hearing about?"

Man, it's like the 'optimal racing line' was hot lava to that guy. I think the frame-scrape at the beginning is what did him in, though...after entering the turn wrong AND doing that, he panicked. The 'vette did try and get out of the way, but it seems like panic braking would've been more advisable.

Although he may have saved that guy's life by keeping his from flying off the road. Or he might be dead...speculation...

If only his pipes were louder. The Vette would have heard him coming and the accident would have been avoided.
