NYC Anti-Smoking Campaign Would Keep Tobacco Products Out Of View In Stores

NEW YORK — Cigarettes would have to be kept out of sight in New York City stores under a first-in-the-nation plan unveiled by Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday, igniting complaints from retailers and smokers who said they've had enough with the city's crackdowns.

Shops from corner stores to supermarkets would have to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in other concealed spots.



I have been advocating this for years. Great idea.

I support this. I personally think cigarettes should be outlawed. No not like the drug war but just kick the whole industry out of the country. Let people buy it from overseas. Smoking is such a pointless destructive habit and 98.5% of the consumers don't want to be consumers (wish they never started).

You can already see all the taxes etc. are working because our culture has changed and much less people smoke as a result. I say this as someone who recently started again after 4-5 years quit.. I don't have too hard a time quitting (usually a week of shittiness and I'm good)
