OCONOMOWOC, Wis. -- An Oconomowoc man is facing charges after he kicked in the door of a neighboring apartment to rescue a woman who he thought was being raped.

But the screams for help were coming from a pornographic movie that his upstairs neighbor was watching.

When James Van Iveren heard the cries for help, he said that he grabbed a collector sword in his apartment and bounded out the door. He kicked in the door upstairs and confronted his neighbor, asking him where the woman was.

Now, Van Iveren is facing three criminal charges. Police have seized his sword, which is a family heirloom.

Van Iveren said that he feels stupid about his mistake, but that it was nothing more than that.

Why didn't he call police? Van Iveren said that he doesn't have phone. He's free on bond and faces a court appearance on March 5.

Um, if I heard a woman getting raped and had ANY kind of weapon available, I damn well would not call police. Unless you are very lucky, the average response time for police is going to be 3-5 minutes under good circumstances. A lot can happen in that time.
