Keep the IHS or get rid of it?

Got a Celeron Tualatin 1.1 today. Its been running at 1.463GHz with a Vcore of 1.625. Right now at full load with a case temp of 25c, the processor is 40c using ASIII. Neither the IHS or the heatsink base are lapped. The fan on my GC68 has a resistor in the 12v line to quiet things down, yet cool nicely. Anyway, I know 40c is an extremely good temp for a 1.4GHz processor. Would it be beneficial to remove the IHS, or should I just leave things be?

I don't know that there is a way to remove the Heat Spreader, and those temps are good. I would leave things be, But lapping the thing and seeing the result is always nice, I guess.

at first people thought it was a good idea (oldfart has a link to it) but people realized after that a 1-2c difference doesnt justify voiding the warranty and having potential damage to the core (since its exposed, can crack just like amd's) and to the green cpu itself

i didnt see a difference, really, when i did it to my 1.2, i put it back on 🙂

Nice clock on the celery man. Leave it and dont lap. Maybe the HS, but as people have said the results just arnt worth the work involved.

After thinking about it, I'm gonna leave it on. Gonna pick up some sandpaper later on today and lap the heatsink. My P3 750 at full load was 37c. Nearly double speed with a 3c increase in temps is cool with me. Getting it to 1.46 was pretty easy. Installed the processor, upped the FSB and voltage, and tada. Took a little playing with the Vcore to get things completely stable. Anything under 1.550 and it dies just short on making it into Win2k desktop. Figure I'll run the voltage a little higer than necessary for a little while and see how much I can back it down. Thanks for the responses all. I'll post the results after I lap the heatsink.
