keep remote desktop open?

We're sort of trying to get XP to become makeshift thick clients here. I've run into a little snag that if no one logs into the remote desktop session, ie, it sits there waiting for a log in, it will close itself

anyway around this?
 
there is probably a timeout setting for it in the local security policy, or group policy if you have a domain.

Right, it should be listening 24/7. But his problem is once he connects he expects it to stay connected 24/7, because he is trying to make thin clients out of it.

I think what he is talking about is after you make the connection, you get a prompt to log in. If you don't log in within like a minute or so, the connection closes down, and you have to re-connect. The service is still listening, but the connection closes.
 
Which wouldn't make much sense as a "problem" If that is what the OP is talking about then it's not a problem at all. Remote desktop icon on the desktop or Start, run then mstsc and hit enter. What's the big deal there. I tend to think that isn't the actual problem he's having but yeah, he'd need to elaborate a little to dismiss any confusion about what he's wanting to do specificallhy.
 
Brazen is correct in what I was trying to get at. Why am I doing this? the user base of this is ... lets say special. I'm trying to elimitate as much "confusion" as possible.

Having a connect icon dead center is what I was originally going to do, but it's a guest account, and for some reason, isn't saving profiles (so a new desktop gets created every time). I'm still digging through group policies to find out what's wrong, but figured I'd ask about the remote desktop thing as well.
 
It might not even be a remote desktop specific setting. It could just be the logon timeout (you know if you hit C-A-D, and don't log in, you eventually have to hit it again). I've glanced through group policy and could not find any settings for either though.
