keep on crunching....

in one place they say 100VA & in another place they say 1000VA then they say 550 watts...???

Yup... That is correct 550Watts for 75 Mins. Not bad huh? Do you think your computer is using 550 Watts? Most computers even with a fan and hard drive spinning don't go over 100 watts. More then likely for a normal computer your using 70-80 watts. Anyway. If you didn't have a Hard Drive and only a CPU Fan and Mother with P/S & Fan it wouldn't be over 50 Watts so you could do 10 systems ... Tho you wouldn't want to turn all 10 300Watt P/S on at one time! 😉

Tho, you should be able to power at least 4-5 normal PC's with this unit. Just don't go plugging in monitors. Esp, 19-21" CRT's.

A 1000va ups will power one current computer, for instance my XP2400 that's OCed a bit, and one 17" CRT monitor for 20-30 minutes, max. I have a 1400va, since I have a 19" CRT monitor. BTW, you can't have a computer without a hard-drive, unless you don't want to run an OS!

You can use a floppy or NETBoot to boot an OS without a hard drive. There were a couple of SETI boot floppies around.

Not true. You can run Knoppix from CD without having a hard drive, there are floppy versions of OS around, so it is quite possible to run a comp without a HD. In fact, when RC5 was hot and heavy, a teammate created a boot floppy and many of us ran HD-less crack racks. 🙂

Ray beat me to the knoppix, there are also many net appliances (wyse terminals) that don't have hard drives as well wal-mart uses them profusly with windows terminal services.(I know I've had to do repairs on the bugers)
