keep my current platform/replace parts or upgrade

Having an issue with Vista, and my motherboard playing nicely.. Researched the BSoD message, and it all leads back to an Nvidia 550 chipset issue.. I've tried every bios version out there, and chipset drivers but still get the same problem..

So I'm faced with either ditching my X2 6400+ and getting an Intel Mobo/CPU or going AMD and replacing my Mobo or just starting from scratch all together.

Not sure if Intel makes a chipset for an AMD platform, but if they did, that's what I'd choose.

I've always experienced solid performance from Intel core logic chipsets. Even way back to my P4 423 socket board.

If you decide to upgrade. Here is what I have configured for a friend atm.

Open Box Asus P5K Pro: 71$

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale: 119$

Super Talent 2GB (2x1) DDR2 800 : 37$

Total: ~229$

When Intel makes a chipset for an AMD CPU, the temperature in Hell will be at record lows. I think the OP should just get a replacement AM2 board for his X2 6400.
