Keep my 460 for PhysX?

I never really knew what PhysX is about until I read some of you guys talking about it here. My 7970 should be arriving tomorrow to replace the 460, I was thinking of selling the 460 originally. Apparently I can keep the 460 in there at the same time, and use it as a dedicated card for PhysX? This would obviously be of limited value since it seems so few games utilize it, but there's definitely a few titles on the list that I have. Would this even work in conjunction with the 7970 as a primary card?

Would there be any other uses of keeping the 460 as a secondary card? What experiences have you had with PhysX?

There is no doubt that Physx adds some really neat eye candy stuff.

GTX 460 became my hybrid PhysX card and back up card if anything fails replacing my old 9800 GTX+.

Keep it as a reminder of what a badass card the GTX 460 was.

I kept my GTX 460 1GB after I bought a GTX 670. In case my new card ever fails I won't be stuck without a gaming while doing an RMA. The minimal amount I'd get for it (plus the potential selling headaches) aren't worth it.

I agree with people here. Keep the gtx 460. I use gtx 460 for hybrid physX with HD 5870 crossfire X. It works very well to run Borderland 2 and Batman series with physX features. You can have a nice hybrid physX system with your HD 7970.

I'd rather have the money from selling it. Physx games hardly exist anymore. Would you rather have the cash from selling it or GPU Physx in the only notable game to have it in more than a year, Borderlands 2. I suppose Planetside 2 also has meager Physx effects these days too.

oh man... I just got the 7970 and this thing is huge! and i don't think i even have enough power cables to plug in both GPU at the same time anyway.

didn't somebody do a test showing that a gt 9600 (or modern equivalent), will not be maxed out using it as a dedicated physx card with an AMD primary? it was somebody from this site. anyway, seems kind of wasteful for a gtx 460, which can still be used as a decent gaming card to be used as physx in a handful of games.

I would sell it personally as physx is more of a gimmick then anything, not to mention the games that support it are few. Nothing wrong with trying it out for a bit to help you make your final decision though.

My dad purchased a used 1Gb 460 for £60 inc shipping which makes that ~$100.

And that was the cheaper end of the 460 scale.

He sold his old 216 core 896mb overlocked GTX260 for £50 just a few days ago. It sounds like you should investigate the prices 🙂

That's not worth it to me. The time I waste packing it up and taking it to UPS or FedEX and then the possibility of some tool abusing it and then saying "It was broken when I got it" - no thanks. I would rather keep my old card in case I need it ... or give it to a friend or relative when I decide I don't.

Thanks for the input. I probably won't even try it as I didn't see any extra 6-pin power cables I could use to plug both in at the same time. That, and the cards would basically be hugging each other. How do people manage cooling with two cards in there?
