Keep my 1.8A @ 2.3Ghz (iffy voltage) or buy a new chip?

I've got a P4 1.8A running @ 2.3Ghz (1.72v actual, not BIOS) on my Asus P4B533. (See full details in this thread.) I've been running Prime95 at this voltage for a couple of hours. CPU temp is a stable 49C/120F.

Now, I'm trying to decide if I should just ditch this chip (sell it on eBay) and get shiny new 1.6A with a more recent pack date so I can actually get a decent overclock. Is it worth it? Is there anything I can try to salvage this chip?

If I do decide to get a 1.6A, what are some good shops where I can get a retail 1.6A for cheap -- with a recent pack date?

Hehe. Nothing is wrong, per se, but I'm just not satisfied with the overclock I've got on my 1.8A. I see all these people running 1.6's at well over 2.4Ghz. It makes me jealous, especially their amazingly fast FSB and DDR speeds. :disgust: So, I'm thinking about getting a newer 1.6A (since my 1.8A has a pack date of 12/16/01, so it was probably manufactured around 11/01, maybe earlier) that will give me a really good overclock.

If you do get a new cpu, look for pack date in July of 2002 (of course 😉 ). Seems like that is the jackpot for overclockers.

Too late. I've already got a 1.6A @ 2.51Ghz, 1.575v (BIOS). Pack date of 6/02 -- close enough for my purposes. I'm happy, at least. 🙂
