Keep me from buying an iPhone!

OK, the wife and I already have iPhones but I want to get my dad a phone that can check his gmail and also allows him to browse the web. He doesn't need apps or music playback, just a phone with mail and web. Suggestions?

Pick one of ATT's "Messaging" phones. They all have a hardware qwerty keyboard and email access.
