Keep it stock or Mod it?

On average, how long does your vehicle stay stock? I don't really care about the level of the mod, but I find many seem to mod about on day one....

My Jeep, it lasted about 3 days and I bought side steps, a hitch and a rack for it. Mainly because those as dealer options were thousands and for under $200 on eBay I got the same results.

This takes me back to my days working at Chrysler when I pleaded with marketing to offer a stripped package. Most people want the base car and will add what they want as they want it. Instead, ALL auto makers seem to cram packages down your throat at inflated prices with options you don't want.

Did an LED conversion (reverse, license, all internal lights), swapped the floormats and changed the fogs to Hoen XenonMatches the day after I got my 06 LS. PCM flash followed shortly thereafter.

Couple of years later :

Swapped out the factory amp, speakers and HU (stupid $200 NAV DVD updates) but kept the factory subs and sub-amp. Pioneer Z110BT (now @Z140BH), Infinity Kappa Four and Infinity Kappa speakers.

Changed spark plugs (E3.48)

Swapped to SS brake lines and slotted/drilled rotors.

I guess I would depending what you are calling mods. A hitch and rack sound more like accessories than mods to me.

Either way, they are optional accessories from the factory for thousands but for less than $200 you can get them from eBay and put them on yourself.

11k on my V before mods - only doing so because OE part failure (installing high flow cats). My Tacoma was already modded (coilovers). My MR2 was as well, but it wasn't long at all before I started changing stuff. Months if even that.

I'm already parts shopping... I don't think there's a car i've had yet that lasted any decent amount of time without mods.

I mod everything I have. The wife's BMW lasted longest stock at nearly a month. My Noble I modded before it was even halfway built, but that was the fastest by far.

"Modding" is just making it your own... If your a gear head/nut then you most always change or add something... Some things like the stereo gets it first unless its a premium package (again back to dealer crap)... Wheels & tires most always get attention but other additions like step bars and fender flares or bumper changes (in relation to trucks) seem to be common... Me I'm more into engine mods and a bit of performance and of course like the better sound from a nice exhaust system (not offensive just a nice deep tone)... BTW have 4" stainless duals on my Dmax...

I tend to leave it stock unless its designed to be a performance car. (Sportbikes, sports cars or "sporty cars")
The only mods I will make...if any
A: Makes vehicle go faster
B. Makes vehicle handle better
C: Makes vehicle stop better

I do not need to "personalize" my vehicles.
I do not take my cars to a track so I'm fine with the OEM rims.
I have no problem with people being able to see the make, model and trim level of my car. I do not think removing emblems makes a car look "clean". I think it makes a car look like it was in an accident and look stupid overall. Taking them off is the same as slapping type-r crap all over your car in my eyes.

My last car got a borla exhaust after the stock exhaust developed a leak.
My motorcycle is completely stock, which amazes just about every rider I bump into after I tell them I've had it for 4 years. I own a liter bike so I don't have to worry about lack of power on the street.
I don't need to "personalize it" because I don't care what other dudes think of my vehicles and I prefer that no one ever look at my motorcycle.
I prefer my cars to get lost in the sea of traffic and go unnoticed.

If I had a truck or offroader, I'd probably toss some useful stuff on it. Winches, boxes stuff like that.

Mod because you have time. I mainly mod while replacing parts. Bad shock = coilovers or a spring/strut combo. Bad sway bushing= BIGGER bars. Worn tires= winter wheels on stock and MAYBE some type of aftermarket wheels.

Only thing i do instantly is TINT and wash/wax.

I dont own trucks, but if i did i would somehow fit a winch on there even tho i dont need it at all.

I used to be into the performance mods a lot, but as I get older I just don't care as much. Now, I want certain features but I refuse to pay dealer prices for them, so I just add them myself aftermarket and save thousands.

I have been lucky with cars...they've always performed to my satisfaction...maybe I'm too easily satisfied...but from earlier BMWs and Fiats to my current Camry, there was little that needed to be "modded"...THIS Camry at least rides like it just came off the showroom floor 8 year/100k miles ago (helped by a new clutch the dealer installed to sell it last year)...ride is tight as a drum....
I did tint the windows for Florida sun/heat, and removed the rear name-badges to accentuate the Camry's symmetry and austere design...
