Need opinions on this.
I currently have an i7-4770K/Asus Gryphon/16GB/GTX 770 setup that I'm fairly happy with.
I'm considering adding an Areca RAID card so that I can RAID 0 with (4) 250GB SSDs for awesome data storage speeds. Yes, 550MB/s single SSD speed is not fast enough. I want as close to 2GB/sec. Read/Writes as possible.

But, I know that adding a RAID card into my second PCIe slot will drop the badwidth from 16X to 8X for my main (vid card) PCIe slot, so I'm considering switching to the X79/i7-4820K platform because of more PCIe lanes.

My question is, would this be worth it?

PLEASE: Can anyone link a graphics card performance comparison on the Z87 platform with the main PCIe slot running at only 8X as opposed to the standard 16X?

Thanks,

4770K as it will be faster most of the time. The extra 2 Mb cache can matter in some applications but they are few and far between. Remember you can always get a PLX Z87 mb if you want.
