Keep getting random popups... how to fix?

i think i accidently installed spyware or something. what's the best software to get rid of the trash that ruins my internet surfing experience? :(
ps--i have google toolbar... these seem to be IE windows spawned by outside forces! :Q

Since you have the google toolbar why don't you use it to search for what you just asked.

Remove any instances of av.exe and bbb.exe running. Adaware won't catch them, but norton antivirus will.

i know several people that were having this problem
spybot adaware found nothing
turn on your XP firewall that is if youre running XP and its not already on.
it worked both times.

could you describe what the windows looks like? i suspect they may be messenger windows. (gray box with an 'OK' button at the bottom most of the time)

edit: im off work, so if it is similiar to the problem i am describing, follow these steps...

- 'start', 'run...' and type: "services.msc" and click the 'ok' button or enter
- go down in the list to 'messenger', right+click and click 'properties'
- underneath 'startup type', choose 'disabled' and underneath 'service status' choose 'stop' and click 'ok'
