the past day, i've been getting random hourglass loading icons for my mouse. i rain norton virus scanner, trendmicro virus scanner, spybot search and destroy, and ad-aware - all of which found nothing (ad-aware found 60 traces of something called wild tangent, but after i deleted them all, i still got the same loading message). i was glancing through task manager to see what was running and the only two tasks were something called "ccApp.exe" and "csrss.exe". of course system idle was also running, but these two randomly run too. also, my system temp has raised a lot idle since this has happened, (from 46 idle to 50). perhaps there is something that can't be traced but is running in the background? does anyone know what these are? or if they're just normal, what else could it be?

start > run > msconfig > disable everything in startup > apply > reboot

See if the hourglass goes away. If so enable one at a time until you find the culprit.

[*]ccapp.exe is related to norton antivirus
[*]Csrss.exe
You cannot end this process from Task Manager. This is the user-mode
portion of the Win32 subsystem (with Win32.sys being the kernel-mode
portion). Csrss stands for client/server run-time subsystem and is an
essential subsystem that must be running at all times. Csrss is
responsible for console windows, creating and/or deleting threads, and
some parts of the 16-bit virtual MS-DOS environment.

Csrss.exe uses 100% of the CPU When you Right-Click an item in Explorer

ccApp is an important part of the protection that Norton AntiVirus (NAV) or Norton Internet Security (NIS) provides and should not be disabled at startup. The other can be read about LINK BELOW and take from it what you will. It would appear you have a nice little bug provided by your nice friends at microsoft eventhough they won,t admit it exists. I believe I read somewhere that a process in a adware program from perfect nav (keen) aka (incredifind)launches the bug in an exploit attempt. Look for folders with titles like updater,,,incredifind,,,,perfectnav,,,keen,,, keenvalue,,,, If you find any of these in your computer or the names in your registry, you have likely been jacked and none of your above mentioned programs will fix them.Pest patrol might, but I suggest a full sysytem restore and download all available security patch,s. Disclaimer,,, I could be wrong.

the problem seems to be msmsgs.exe. everytime i get the hour glass and look at task manager it has about 17% cpu usage. does anyone know if i can shut this off, or would that be a problem in itself?

Other users have also experienced this problem with the Windows/MSN Messenger service (msmsgs.exe) eating up cpu cycles. If you have Norton AntiVirus (or SystemWorks), simply start the Norton program and choose option to disable protection from MSN Instant Messenger (options > instant messenger). This usually fixes the problem. :)
