keep getting disconnected and/or connection time-out

Recently, i built a shuttle for gaming and what not. The college dorm internet is T4 so it is pretty fast, but i've noticed that i get disconnected from AIM all the time, especially if im web surfing at the same time. Soon after i'll notice that web pages timeout or just lag in place. No one else in the building seems to have this problem.

Now that i'm visiting home for a few days, I notice the same thing is happening with my cable internet. Can any of you help me out?? I'm not sure whether its the computer or if i'm just unlucky with bad internet.

oh, and this sometimes happens while playing counterstrike or WoW
