keep getting a com5 splat in device manager. wtf is com5??

all new hardware, system reloaded (win98se), i remove the splat, reboot, there it is again! can't find any reference to com ports in the bios. any suggestions?

Your modem needs a com port....

but my modem seems to have no problem in device manager.
