Keep existing storage space when going from Win8 32 bit to 64 bit?

Hi all,

I have been googling but cannot seem to find an answer to this.

I got myself a new home server to replace a failing WHS1 machine. I accidentally installed the 32bit version of Windows 8 (yes, I know, it is not a real server software...) instead of the 64 bit version which is what I was intending (clumsy yes I know...).

Normally would not have any problem with formatting and re-installing the correct version but I just spent a couple of days copying data into the Windows storage space I set up and would very much like to not have to do this again so if anyone can advice if the storage spaces created by the 32 bit version of Windows 8 will be recognized by the 64 bit version would be great!

Cheers all!

To answer my own question in case anyone ever is wondering the same, it does work. I went ahead and reinstalled with Win 8 x64 yesterday evening and it recognised the storage pool with no problems at all.

Indeed. Storage Spaces are fully portable between all versions of Win8 and WinServer2012. It's a file system construct rather than anything that is contingent on bitness.
