Keep Droid Bionic or go Galaxy Nexus?

Hey guys, I got a Droid Bionic about 3 weeks ago. I have until mid January to return the device and get another one if I don't like it.

I saw the Galaxy Nexus. Looks like a nice phone. Do you think it would be worth the switch? I love ICS, I know the Bionic will get it "sometime" in the future. I've been getting solid 4G speeds of around 6-40Mbps.

I like how the GNexus is a Category 3 LTE device, as opposed to the Bionic's Category 2. Although that might not mean much right now.. an average of 20Mbit is more than enough I think?

Just want your opinions on it

I have the Nexus and had the Bionic, to say that they aren't even comparable would be an understatement. Everything about the Nexus so far feels much more refined than the Bionic.

If you like Moto blur at least get a razr

Ugh. I am probably going to bite the bullet and get a Galaxy Nexus tomorrow. I am not looking forward to a $140+ phone bill...lol

I am one of those weird people who likes TouchWiz (I know the GNexus doesn't have it) but Blur is fine to me. I know people said it was an absolute trainwreck when it first came out and it looked like it.

I just... can't stop looking at the screen. True 720p resolution. I miss having a retina display (I got Verizon and the Bionic after my screen shattered on AT&T)

RAZR is a no go. Can't stand a device that doesn't have a replaceable battery which is a must for 4G phones. I've had the iPhone 3G before... battery life doesn't last long :(

Well to be honest I think the Rezound has a better display. It may be a regular old LCD as opposed to AMOLED but it's cleaner looking.

Edit: Gonna get slammed for this but the iPhone 4 has a better display than the Nexus imo.

Rezound per specs has highest ppi (pixels per inch) out of all smartphones; second is iphone 4.
AMOLED has its pros and cons; LCD on rezound has more realistic colors.

My Bionic didn't start losing data connection after a month of owning it. I SO regret not taking it back. Even with the updates, the phone still drops out. I am at the point where I fully believe Verizon should compensate for the constant drop-outs. There is no justice going to be had.

RETURN IT

Wait are you serious? I read a post on data disconnects. I wonder if its true or not. My bionic loses the data connection every now and then. The blog said it was the result of an authentication error between the sim and whatever CDMA uses to aufhenticate users and phones and it happens for all LTE phones... Iwonder if its just my droid then?

Ahhh crap.

Problem with the Rezound (or that LG 720p phone) is lack of ICS. ICS is made for 720p, Gingerbread not-so-much.

When I messed with a Rezound in store it felt too much like my CM7 Nook Color (especially its hacked-on softkeys). You add in a lack of the "zoom-to-fit" feature like Honeycomb or ICS has and the Rezound seems like volunteering to personally take on Android's growing pains.

I can't speak for other 4G LTE phones but AFAIK the bionic is the worst of them all. I'm surprised you haven't heard more about this.

EDIT: im on the latest updated too. I'm not a 'Rooter' either. I don't know how to do any of that stuff.

Have both, Nexus for the wife and Bionic for my daughter. Bionic WILL NOT connect to Wifi. And it seems like it's a known issue with no workaround yet. Verizon claimed back in November that they will be sending out a fix, but none yet. It pisses me off because I got the Bionic during the .01 sale at Amazonwireless. I know if I try to exchange it, I'm going to have to pay the difference.

I've used all of the recent VZ line for about 2 weeks each

Gnex > Rezound > Razr > Bionic

I rooted before and really nothing special. Just did it for the overclocking. I would say avoid rooting for phones but for wifi devices it's fine.

Anyway I just swapped the thing out. This thing is amazing!!! The lady at the verizon store said the Bionic had lots of antenna issues as well.

Now all I need is 4G where I live.

Rooting on a Motorola phone doesn't really allow you to do as much as you can on other phones. Rooting on a Samsung and most HTCs allow a heck of a lot more than just overclocking. Most devs stick to the Samsung and HTC devices these days due to Moto's anti-community practices.

Why did you get a bionic just 3 weeks ago? Rezound and Razr were out then... I don't get people that spend 200+ on phones that are already a generation old.

Mainly they dont research thoroughly. They get what looks good at the store. Sometimes not even playing with a working model.

Way to go Mr. Know it all. Thats definitely why I got the Bionic.

I've had an iphone 3G and 4. I hated not having a removeable battery. It just drives me nuts and for me its a huge deal. I've never liked HTC and I haven't regarded them highly ever since their first 4G phone on sprint. Forgot what it was called. The evo? Or something like that. Very poor battery life. From what it seems the Rezound is thick and I didn't particularly care for the headphones which seemed to me was a way for them to jack up the price.

The RAZR didn't have a replaceable battery. Had a 200MHz faster cpu and almost the same OS. Not worth the extra $100.

For the record not everyone is looking for the latest and greatest. Just something thats practical. I would have kept the bionic if thd data didnt disconnect randomly.

Bionic is a brick, literally. At least the Razr has a better screen. I liked it after using it for 2 weeks but I still traded it for a GN and havent looked back.

It's pretty sweet man  definitely a good swap! I love the screen... missed the retina densities and now I (I suppose we) have something that's better than those retina displays!

And you ended up taking our advice anyway? Bionic was a terrible choice 3 weeks ago no matter how you look at it.

Actually I got it after BTRY's comment. The reviews I read made no mention of the Bionic's hardware faults. None of them mention random disconnects.

If ICS is made for 720P then what happens to phones that aren't 720p like the SG SII?
