I bought the 8800GTS 512Mb a few months back. I bought it at Newegg when they were offering a free copy of Crysis with an EVGA graphics card. So now my question is, should I get the new 4870 and try and sell my 8800 GTS or will I really not see that much of an improvement in gaming and it would be a big waste of money? I have an Asus Maximus Formula motherboard and a Q9450 chip.

I did pay $350 when I bought the card back in January. Would a 4870 be that much of an improvement or should I save my money and use it elsewhere? Any suggestions would be great.

By the way, I love my system now. There are no problems. But I am always looking for ways to upgrade and become faster and more efficient. Would this be worth another $300?

I think alot of people are in the same boat as you, including myself :) From what I've learned, and this is just my opinion that if you game at 1680x1050 or below keep your GTS. it seems to me that the 4870 andgtx 260/280 shinny at resolutions above that. And for me its the samething, I love my system now, its rock stable dead quiet and excellent temps. And it plays the one and only game I have perfect BF2. I did just buy stalker so I hope the GT can also run that as good as it runs BF2. But I always have that itch to upgrade even though I don't need too, but to me $300 to get a few more fps,but have a hotter and louder system just doesn't sound right, but that's just my 2 cents :)

If your game are running with a hickup then you don't need to upgrade. Wait until you get a game that don't run to your liking and then upgrade.

Technology = money down the drain if you aren't too careful about upgrading at the right time. Of course some people couldn't care less.

Changing your vid card would bring nothing new to running your computer more efficient. It's all about games with these cards.

I can honestly say 8800gts is still a fast card. No need to upgrade something you just bought 6 months ago that depreciated it's value by 50% already.
