KDS Rad-5 Problem

I came into a KDS RAd-5 monitor that they threw away (into my car) from work. It works great some of the time, but will sometimes go all white or just go screwy. It seems like if I tap the lcd (the case itself around the LCD) that sometimes the video will come back and become normal again. The LCD is under a warranty from KDS, but when I called, they said that I would have to cover parts and one way shipping. I'm not looking to spend any money right now, so I was wondering if anyone had any idea if this is fixable by me. I'm no stranger to soldering and electronics, but don't have too much experience with LCD's. If there anything I could check for being loose on this? Is it worth sending in to get it fixed? Any ideas would be appreciated. -Tal

You shouldn't have to cover the cost of parts on something under warranty. I can understand shipping, but not parts.

It's in it's second year or so of the warranty. Evidently the first year, everything is covered, but in the second, it's only parts or labor, I forget which one.
